What Are These Phases?
Perimenopause is the transition phase that can start in the 30s or 40s and last 4–10 years. Hormones rise and fall unpredictably.
Common signs: irregular periods, mood changes, sleep disruption, brain fog, hot flashes.
Menopause is officially reached after 12 consecutive months without a period. The average age is 48 yrs to 5yrs depending on each individual body.
During this phase the Ovaries stop releasing eggs and estrogen + progesterone levels drop significantly.
Post-menopause: These are the years following menopause.
Some symptoms may reduce, but long-term health shifts occur in bone density, heart health, metabolism, and brain function.
Why does this transition feel hard ?
At times, lack of education can be the cause. Most women are not taught or educated on what to expect or how to handle themselves, when changes begin.
Hormones impact everything in the body during this stage. Mood, sleep, weight, skin, libido, memory, and joint health are all influenced by shifting estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone.
Symptoms are real and not imaginary. Hot flashes, night sweats, anxiety, dryness, and fatigue are physiological responses to hormonal changes.
What shifts :
- Physical Shifts
Cycles become irregular, then stop. Metabolism slows. Muscle mass may decrease. Bone loss accelerates. Temperature regulation changes.
- Emotional & Mental Shifts
Mood fluctuations, irritability, and anxiety can increase. Sleep quality often drops. Brain fog and word recall issues are common.
- Long-Term Health Focus
Postmenopause increases attention on heart health, bone strength, cognitive health, and vaginal/urinary wellness due to lower estrogen.
This Is a Biological Transition, Not a Decline
Perimenopause to postmenopause spans decades. With awareness, this life stage can be navigated with more ease, agency, and self-understanding.
